The formation of the Association for Promoting Sustainability in Campuses and Communities (APSCC) is to serve as an impetus, not-for-profit, and voluntary organization for sustainable development in conservation strategies, programs, and projects about water, healthy food, energy, waste (solid & liquid), and biodiversity among the educational institutions and local communities based on the Principle-3 of the Rio Declaration, ‘the right to development must be fulfilled to equitably meet developmental and environmental needs of present and future generations’, fostering Environmental Justice. Environmental justice was defined by the USEPA, ‘as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, or income concerning the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies. It will be achieved when everyone enjoys the same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards and equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work’. APSCC strive for environmental justice by providing resources, initiating action research and promoting sustainable innovations at the grassroots level, fostering ‘attitude change’, in collaboration with a network of eminent sustainability professionals, scientists, and universities across the globe, while simultaneously working in close coordination with multiple Indian, USA and UN organizations, both Government and Non-Government.
