As we embark on the Sustainable Development Goals, we are reminded that awareness education is central to UNEP’s mandate of ‘inspiring, informing and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations’. We are reminded that awareness is especially important, given that what we do is pivotal to how the communities deal with the multiple challenges of climate change, resource efficiency, and management of our growing legacy of waste and environmental pollution.
Universities and other Institutions and Industries, as the pinnacle of formal, organized sector, thus have a responsibility both to help define and to become exemplars of environmental best practices. This Souvenir of the State Level Awareness Program on Sustainable Waste Management (SLAPSWM 2017-18) is released in memory of the 30 programs that were organized in between August 2017 – February 2018 at various places for different stakeholders in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe & Yanam. The event had attracted over 5000 participants throughout the region.
The time and effort put by the Officers of the Government, Program Lead, Co-Lead, Convener, Volunteers, and all Resource Persons have made this event a grand success.
