APSCC became the Regional or National Expert Committee (RNEC) for India for the Sulitest — the world's first international tool for assessing and enhancing sustainability literacy, created in the wake of Rio+20.
The Sulitest — short for Sustainability Literacy Test — is the first international assessment tool created to measure and enhance sustainability literacy across the world. Born in the wake of the 2012 Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, it responds directly to the global call for institutions to equip citizens with the knowledge needed to build a more sustainable future.
Supported by United Nations bodies and a network of leading global academic institutions, the Sulitest provides individuals and organisations with a reliable way to measure what they know about sustainability — and, crucially, to improve it. It is designed not as a one-off examination but as a continuously evolving instrument, drawing on regional and local expertise to keep its content relevant to the communities it serves.
APSCC as India's Regional Expert Committee
APSCC has been appointed the Regional or National Expert Committee (RNEC) for India. In this role, APSCC manages the development of regional and local sustainability questions tailored to the Indian context, ensuring that the Sulitest reflects the country's environmental, social and economic realities rather than relying solely on globally generalised content.
This work is coordinated by the APSCC secretariat and carried out by a community of academics, professionals and students who bring together scholarly rigour and on-the-ground experience. Together, they contextualise sustainability literacy for India — localising the questions that help learners engage with the challenges most relevant to their own campuses and communities.
The Sulitest empowers individuals to measure and improve their sustainability literacy — the first step toward acting on the knowledge that shapes a sustainable future.
Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals
By strengthening sustainability literacy in India, APSCC's role as RNEC contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative advances quality education (SDG 4) by building the knowledge and skills needed for sustainable development, and it strengthens partnerships for the goals (SDG 17) by connecting Indian academics, professionals and students to a global community working toward a shared aim.
